My journey as an artist and eventually, as a practicing animator started in year three, when I joined Alberton Primary School’s Gifted Arts Class. As well as learning the fundamentals of art and a range of mediums I was introduced to impressionism and pointillism, artistic styles that are evident in my work today. This passion continued into high school until I developed a passion for animation in year 10. I’d always love cartoons such as Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Invader Zim etc, Before that I was making comics that mimicked Captain Underpants and Diary of A Wimpy Kid but it wasn’t until I started watching Animators on YouTube that I became infatuated

Around the same time I was dealing with feelings of purposelessness and isolation. Realising how privileged I was in comparison to others became the first step in my interest in activism. I’d always wanted to give my opportunities to others who weren’t in a position to receive them naturally but through School Strike 4 Climate, Fossil Free SA and a number of others, I now could.

I created my first (now defunct) YouTube account in 2018, hoping to entertain as well as promote some of the initiatives my activist groups were advertising. Even though this didn’t go as planned I still learnt a number of technical skills during its existence. I Saved up and bought a graphics tablet and familiarised myself with digital art, slowly becoming accustomed to Adobe Photoshop and Animate while creating my more tangible art on the side.

Now having finished high school, Creating digital art and animating has become my central focus, with the works going into my university application as presented in my Art Folio page being paramount to my next step as an artist.

I still believe in the causes I fought for in my days as an activist and will take every opportunity to continue connecting with people and raising awareness of all forms of injustice through my art.
